About Our Program
Mission Statement
Welcome to the Guardian Angel Daycare! Our center’s mission is to provide a safe haven for our children in a child friendly, Christian environment. The center provides a developmentally appropriate program for all children and keeps and encourages an open communication with parents. We serve the community of the Skaggs Catholic Center.
Philosophy
The philosophy of the Guardian Angel Daycare is one that is based on the individual and developmental needs of the children. The Christian environment will have emphasis on the whole child: emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual. Jesus is included in our day by having daily prayer and biblically based activities. We believe that every child is deserving of the very best opportunities to develop and grow in an enriching Christian setting.
Center Hours
During the school year the center opens at 7:00 A.M. and closes promptly at 6:00 P.M. We would ask that you not drop your child off before we officially open each day. If a teacher is here early, it is to set up and get ready for the day. please respect this time. Also, note that a $1.00 per minute fee will be charged if a child is picked up after 6:00 P.M.; make checks payable to Guardian Angel Daycare (all funds collected go to purchasing supplies). Our summer hours are 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. - the afore mentioned policy, also, applies during the summer program.
Arrival and Departure
The adult responsible for drop off and pick up of your child(ren) is required to come in to the daycare center to sign in and out. Children will be released from the center only to the parent or other specified adult in the child’s file. please let us know as soon as possible if someone other than the parent/guardian will be picking up your child(ren). If for any reason a specific parent is not allowed to pick up his/her child, we will need a copy of the court record in the child’s file.
Change of Information
It is imperative that Maria Carrizo or Heidi Leek be notified promptly of any changes of address, telephone number, place of employment or any other pertinent information. We need our records to be as complete as possible.
Snacks and Lunches
Two nutritious snacks and a lunch will be served to all day care children, infant through preschool aged. Lunch in the cafeteria is available to students attending kindergarten through fifth grades. An afternoon snack is, also, provided for the school-aged children. Hot lunch is not provided on early dismissal days and no school days for the children in kindergarten through fifth grade. please make sure they bring a sack lunch on these days. We will call parents to bring their child a lunch on early dismissal and no school days if your child is without one from home, if you are unable to bring a lunch and we have to make one for your child, a $10.00 inconvenience fee will be assessed to your account. Guardian Angel Daycare is a NUT FREE ZONE please refrain from bringing in any snacks or food that contains nuts or was processed in a plant that processes nut products. If you need clarification on this policy, please feel free to ask any staff member.
Sick Child policy
The staff understands that it is difficult for working parents when their child is sick. However, it is extremely important that the health and well being of all the children and staff be taken into consideration. If your child has a temperature over 100.0 degrees, exhibits behavior changes or does not feel well enough to participate comfortably in the daily activities; he/she will need to be picked up from day care. Children should be picked up as soon as possible; no later than one hour from the time the parent was notified child’s illness.
If your child has had diarrhea, vomiting or a fever, and was sent home from our center, he/she will need to remain home the day following being sent home, and may not return until he/she is free of symptoms for 24 hours and has not been given any fever reducing medications for at least eight hours.
All babies less than four months of age with a temperature of 101 degrees or higher should seek medical attention. Also, if your child has mucous discharge from the nose, eyes or ears, it may be an indication of an infection; please keep your child home. It is difficult to keep children from spreading germs through hand to mouth contact (i.e.: touching nose or ears, rub eyes then touch toys).
Our policy overrides any doctor’s note as to when a child may return to daycare.
When your child contracts any communicable diseases such as chickenpox, impetigo, hand-foot-mouth, conjunctivitis (pink eye), etc., he/she may return to the center only with a physician’s release. You may, also, bring your child in after 9:00 A.M. and have the school nurse (if available) release your child to return if you are unable to acquire this release from your physician.
Medication Disbursement
In order to disburse medication, whether it is over the counter (OTC) or a prescription (Rx), we need both a “parent Request to Administer Medication” and a “physician Request to Administer Medication” form completed and on file. Separate forms must be filled out for each medication for each child. Maria or Heidi will administer the medication and log it in under the child’s name in the “Medication Log” book. All medications must be kept in the refrigerator, in the cabinet above the stove in the kitchen or locked in the filing cabinet in the front office.
Toilet Training policy
It is the policy of our Center and the Diocese of Salt Lake City that all children entering the three and four year old preschool/pre-kindergarten programs are fully potty trained. Children must be able to wipe themselves; flushable wipes may be stored for your child’s convenience. If the child is not fully potty trained they must be placed in the toddler program until the potty training process has been completed. The day care fee will then be adjusted. If the toddler program does not have a space available, the parents must remove the child from the day care until the potty training is complete. The absence will not affect the day care fee. The child must be accident free from St. John the Baptist preschool and Guardian Angel Daycare in order to remain enrolled.
The teachers in our toddler program will gladly assist in the toilet training of your child. Some basic skills all children need to begin this process are: the ability to follow simple instructions, understand words about the toilet process, regulate the muscles responsible for elimination, express verbally a need to go, keep a diaper dry for at least two hours and to pull down underpants. We have found that the use of “pull-ups” delays the process by sending a mixed message to the child. please refrain from bringing them to the daycare. It is recommended that you purchase the thick cloth training pants and plastic pants (to go over the cloth), instead.
Absences
Please let the staff know as soon as possible if your child(ren) will not be attending day care. You may leave a message on our phone any time of the day or night. Also, please be advised that an absence will not affect the fee.
Discipline
The discipline policy at the center is one where we teach and model to children how to behave in a Christian manner. Children need guidance, rules and limits. Being consistent, giving choices, redirecting and setting limits will be some ways of guiding behavior. Break time (time out) will be used in extreme cases and limited to one minute per year of child. Our goal is to teach the children to have self -discipline.
Rest Time policy
All children love to play. It is for the benefit of the child that he/she takes time to relax their body each day. Every room has a specified rest time (the Infant Room is the exception). Please check with the classroom daily schedule as to what your child’s time would be. If your child is not a “napper”, he/she will need to rest his/her body for at least 45 minutes. After which they may read a book or do a quiet puzzle on their mat. Blankets and sheets are provided, a soft toy (no bigger than 10" X 5") may be brought for rest time.
Day Care Rules:
Respect toys
Use inside voices
Use walking feet inside the building
Clean up your space before leaving
Do as Jesus would do
Dress Code
All children who do not attend St. John the Baptist should be dressed in comfortable play clothes. please avoid clothes that need to be kept clean. Rubber soled shoes are recommended as safest for climbing and vigorous play for outside time. Also, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather (i.e.: waterproof gloves, hats, socks, coats, boots, snow suits, etc) as we do venture outside to play each day. preK 4 and older children must remain in their uniforms while in daycare unless it is a no school day. Guardian Angel Daycare is not responsible for lost or stolen clothing items.
Items that Parents Need to provide
Infant Room: Diapers, wipes, formula or breast milk, baby food, three boxes of tissues, child’ s blanket, two changes of clothes (labeled and appropriate for weather), pacifier, bottles. As soon as your child is able to eat table foods, we will gladly supply two snacks and a lunch daily.
Toddler Room: Diapers, wipes, two changes of clothes (labeled and appropriate for weather), and three boxes of tissues. Two snacks and a lunch will be served to your child daily. Crib sheet and blanket for rest time will be provided by daycare.
Preschool Rooms: Change of clothes (labeled and appropriate for weather), three boxes of tissues. Two snacks and a lunch will be served to your child daily. Crib sheet and blanket for rest time will be provided by daycare.
School Aged: Change of clothes (labeled and appropriate for weather), to be left in locker/cubby. Afternoon snack will be served to your child. We do not serve lunch on early dismissal days; please pack a lunch from home.
Homework Time
Students in second through fifth grade will be given an hour each day to either get started on or complete their homework. After 30 minutes, if they are done with their assignments, the children may choose a quiet activity or read until the hour is complete. It is our policy not to “force” children to do their homework but only to give them the opportunity to work on it. The teachers are available to help your child with any questions they may have on their homework, but they do not check them when completed; you will need to review your child’s assignments at home. Because the younger children usually either do not have homework or have only a page or two to do, we do not allot time out for homework.
Toys and Items from Home
Please do not allow your child to bring toys, money or expensive items to the center. It is difficult for children to share their own toys. Children may bring in a soft toy, no bigger than 10" X 5", for rest time but it will need to stay in their cubbies before and after rest time. If we find toys from home, they will be kept at the front desk until Mom or Dad picks them up. We are not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Birthday party policy
You are more than welcome to celebrate your child’s birthday with their friends here at the Center. All treats must be store bought; this is a state law. Make sure to check with us regarding times and possible food allergies of other children. However, if you would like to invite some of his/her friends to a party, please mail the invitations to their homes (addresses can be located in the school directory). This will help us avoid hurt feeling when a child does not receive an invitation.
Child Abuse policy
The day care follows the same procedures as St. John the Baptist Elementary School. A copy of this procedure is in the “St. John the Baptist Elementary Student/parent Handbook”.If you do not have a copy of the handbook and would like a copy of this policy, please let us know. We will be happy to provide you with a copy.
Payment Policy
Guardian Angel Daycare uses the F.A.C.T.S. Tuition payment plan to administer the collection for childcare fees. The F.A.C.T.S. program is based upon automatic payment, as authorized by parents, from their bank accounts to F.A.C.T.S. The amount for each month will be filled in by the administration and F.A.C.T.S. will contact you to verify the amount.
We are excited to announce a new way to sign up for F.A.C.T.S. with Guardian Angel Daycare. eCashier, a new program through FACTS, has been implemented campus wide to streamline the payment collection process. Registering for this takes five minutes; it’s that easy. No forms are required.
All new families and those who attend on a drop in basis need to register with eCashier. Families already signed up with FACTS for Guardian Angel Daycare need to do nothing. To register, please visit our Enrollment page at www.guardianangeldaycare.org and click on the “eCashier” icon at the bottom of the page.
For our new families, once you have completed the registration process, we will fill in the amount owed as well as the payment amount with FACTS. A letter will then be sent to you for your review.
For our drop-in families, once you have completed the registration process, nothing will be done until your child attends our program. At the beginning of each month, a statement will be emailed to you for the previous month’s charges. If there is no discrepancy, the amount owed will be submitted to FACTS and it will be withdrawn from your account on the 20th of the month.
If you have already signed up with F.A.C.T.S. for St. John the Baptist Elementary or Middle School or Juan Diego High School, the enrollment fee will be waived. The automatic payment process is strictly controlled by state and federal laws to be absolutely confidential and limited to what has been authorized by parents. Accounts that are three months in the rears will be referred to an outside agency for collection. Fees reflect the days the Daycare is open only; we do not charge for days in which we are closed. Fees are then divided equally between nine months for the school school year, for full time children only. Drop in children will be charged for the days they attend only. Fees for summer are separate and not reflected on the rate chart below.

Since amounts vary according to days needed, we cannot list a monthly rate.
Kindergarten through 5th grade students may drop in for "mornings only" for $5.00 per morning. This is for those whose parents need to drop them off early but do not need after school care.
Late Payment Fee:
Beginning August 2009 a late payment fee of $10.00 per month will be assessed to all balances over 31 days.
Termination policy
A two-week written notice must be submitted to the director, Maria Carrizo, when day care services are no longer needed. If two-week notice is not given, you will be assessed fees from the time notice was given to two weeks out.
Donations Needed
The Center graciously accepts donations such as: crayons, paper, markers, yarn, buttons, tissues, pencils, fabric, stamps, board games, glitter glue, sequins, copy paper and art supplies. please check with Maria before dropping items off.
Holding policy
Because of the long waiting list and the limited availability in our daycare, there is a policy for holding spaces that open in our center. When a spot opens up in our infant and toddler rooms we will notify the parents. If you do not wish to start your child at that time but want to hold the spot for additional time (a month, two months, etc.) we require an amount of half the monthly tuition for that room to guarantee your space. During the summer months a $100.00 per month holding fee will be implemented for preschool age children.
Waiting List
It is our policy that a waiting list application be turned in along with a $10.00 processing fee in order for a child to be placed on our waiting list. Applications received without the processing fee will not be acknowledged. We do not follow a “first come first served” policy with the waiting list; we must follow the same procedure as the other schools on our campus. Therefore, the following is how we determine who would be accepted first:(1) Staff of the Skaggs Catholic Center, (2) sibling of students in one of the three campus schools, (3) Catholics from St. John the Baptist parish, (4) Catholics from other parishes and (5) non-Catholics. We do not consider who knows who or any promised donations. We need to be fair.
Three-Year-Old preschool (preK 3)
Guardian Angel Daycare administers the preK 3 program (St. John the Baptist administers the preK 4 program). In order to be eligible for this program, your child must be three years old by September 1st; this is a state law and the Diocese of Salt Lake City enforces this policy throughout their schools. Children with birthdays after September 1st will remain in our toddler program until the following summer. We use the Caterpillar curriculum from High Reach Learning as well as the Mailbox curriculum; these programs are specifically designed for the three-year-old. The religion curriculum we use is through Our Sunday Visitor and is entitled “I Am Special”; this too is specifically designed for the three-year-old. The waiting list for our preschool program opens in September and closes in February for the following school year. A supply list for those accepted into our preschool will be issued in August before school begins. We offer three choices of programs: a two day program on Tuesday and Thursday, a three day program on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and a five day program Monday through Friday. You may, also, choose preschool only (8:00 AM – 11:00 AM) or all day (any time from 7:00 AM to 6:00 pM).
