Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What ages of children to you take? We take infants as young as six weeks and children as old as fifth grade for after school care.
  2. What is your enrollment policy? We have a waiting list for our infant through PreK 3 rooms. You will need to fill out a waiting list application for these rooms. Our openings are not, however, filled on a first come first serve basis; staff of the Skaggs Catholic Center have first priority, siblings of children already enrolled in SJBE, SJBMS or JDCHS have next priority, Catholics from St. John the Baptist Parish are next, followed by Catholics from other parishes, and last non-Catholics. Our extended day program is only for students enrolled in St. John the Baptist Elementary. We do not take middle school children in our extended day program.
  3. Do you offer a preschool program? Guardian Angel Daycare administers a three-year-old preschool program. We have preschool every day from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. You can choose the three day program (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), the two day program (Tuesday and Thursday), or all five days (Monday through Friday). Of these options, you can do preschool only or preschool with extended day. St. John the Baptist Elementary administers the PreK4 program.
  4. How old does my child have to be to attend your preschool? Per diocesan policy, children must be three by September 1st to attend the PreK 3 program and will need to be fully potty trained. The Diocese of Salt Lake City follows the state birthday guidelines for acceptance into all grades.
  5. What are your hours? We open at 7:00 am and close at 6:00 pm year round.
  6. Can I drop my children off before 7:00 am? No, we open at 7:00 am.
  7. What happens if I am running late and cannot pick up my child(ren) until after 6:00? We suggest you have a family member, friend, or neighbor that you can call to pick up your child if you cannot make it on time. We understand that we live in Utah and have some bad weather days – please plan ahead and have a back up plan. We charge a $5.00 per minute late fee for children picked up after 6:00 pm.
  8. How much is it for after school care? Our fees are located under our program tab. Click on the School Age option.
  9. Do you offer just before school care? For Kindergarten through 5th grade, the morning only fee is $5.00 per child. This rate only applies to children coming in from 7:00 am to 7:50 am.
  10. Will I be charged if my child is absent? If you are on our drop in billing – you are billed only when your child attends – you will only be charged for the days your child attends. However, if your child is on a set schedule (Prek 3) or signed up for full time care, your fees will not be adjusted for sick or vacation time.
  11. I have a picky eater. Can I bring in his/her own meals? Yes. Our lunch and snack menu is posted. If you notice that we are serving a lunch that your child will not eat, please feel free to send one with your child. Guardian Angel Daycare is sensitive to the various allergies our children have so we ask that any food you send with your child be nut free; please check the labels to make sure the product does not have nuts or was processed in a plant that also processes nut products. We will not serve any food that is deemed "unsafe".
  12. What is your discipline policy? The discipline policy here at Guardian Angel Daycare is one where we teach and model to children how to behave in a Christian manner. Children need guidance, rules, and limits. Being consistent, giving choices, redirecting, and setting limits are some of the ways we use to guide behavior. Break time or thinking time will only be used in extreme cases and is limited to one minute per year of the child.
  13. Do children need to be potty trained for the PreK 3 Program? Yes. Per Diocesan policy, all children entering into any preschool program must be fully potty trained. Pull-ups are not allowed. Also, teachers are not allowed to assist children in wiping themselves.
  14. Do you serve breakfast? We serve a morning, breakfast-like, snack to the children. As this is just a snack, please make sure your child has a healthy breakfast before coming to Guardian Angel Daycare.
  15. Do the infants and toddlers play together with the older children? No. All children play with their age group/class.
  16. What education in early child development do your teachers have? All teachers either have their Child Development Associate (CDA) or are working toward completing the requirements for their CDA. All staff are required to complete a minimum of twenty hours of training in early child development each year.
  17. What is your child to teacher ratio? Infants and one-year-olds are one teacher to three children, toddlers are one teacher to five children, PreK 3 is one teacher to ten children.
  18. Do I have to clock my school age child in each morning? Yes. An adult must clock in and out all children.
  19. If I am running late, can I just call and have my child walk out to the parking lot to meet me? No. The safety of all the children is a priority to us. We will do our best to collect your child(ren) and have them waiting in our front office if you are running late, but you will still need to walk in and clock them out.
  20. Can I drop in at any time to visit my child? Guardian Angel Daycare has an open door policy. We encourage parents to visit and volunteer in the classroom.
  21. Do you have a dress code for the children? Children in the infant through PreK 3 programs should be dressed in comfortable play clothes that are appropriate to the weather conditions. Children in the PreK 4 through 5th grade extended day program will remain in their school uniforms on school days. Children are not allowed to change into "play" clothes after school – this is how uniform pieces get lost. On no school days, the children do not need to wear their uniform. If your child participates in a sport after school, he/she may change into clothes for that sport 15 minutes before they are to be picked up for practice/game.
  22. Do you offer financial aid? Unfortunately, we are not able to offer financial assistance for childcare services. Because we are affiliated with a religious organization, we are license exempt and, therefore, are not on the approved center list for State assistance.
  23. Do you take special needs children? Unfortunately, we do not have the appropriate trained staff to benefit children with special needs.
  24. What is your sick child policy? The staff understands that it is difficult for working parents when their child is sick. However, it is extremely important that the health and well being of all the children and staff be taken into consideration. If your child has a temperature over 100.0 degrees, exhibits behavior changes, or does not feel well enough to participate comfortably in the daily activities, he/she will need to be picked up from daycare. Children should be picked up as soon as possible; no later than one hour from the time the parent was notified of the child's illness.

If your child has had diarrhea, vomiting, or a fever, and was sent home from our center, he/she will need to remain home the day following being sent home, and may not return until he/she is free of symptoms for 24 hours and has not been given any fever reducing medications for at least eight hours.
All babies less than four months of age with a temperature of 101 degrees or higher should seek medical attention. Also, if your child has mucous discharge from the nose, eyes, or ears, it may be an indication of an infection; please keep your child home. It is difficult to keep children from spreading germs through hand to mouth contact (e.g. touching nose or ears, rub eyes then touch toys).
Our policy overrides any doctor's note as to when a child may return to daycare.
When your child contracts any communicable diseases such as chickenpox, impetigo, hand-foot-mouth, conjunctivitis (pink eye), etc., he/she may return only with a physician's release. You may, also, bring your child in after 8:30 am and have the school nurse (if available) release your child to return if you are unable to acquire this release from your physician.

Withdraw from your bank account through FACTS Management Company. All families need to register with FACTS. Children who attend on a drop-in basis, will receive and invoice at the beginning of each month with the charges for the previous month. Please review this bill and let us know by the 10th of the month if there are any discrepancies. All amounts will be submitted to FACTS and withdrawal will take place from your account on the 20th of the month.
